The DM7820 provides 48 bits of high speed digital I/O. It interfaces with the 33MHz PCI bus and uses large FIFOs and DMA transfers to allow for efficient management of digital data. Several peripherals, such as Pulse Width Modulators, Incremental Encoders, Programmable Clocks, 82C54 Timer/Counters and Advanced Interrupt Modules are all on board. All 48 bits have an individually programmed direction and mask. The Advanced Interrupt Modules provide Match, Event, and Strobe interrupts which latch all 48 bits upon firing. Peripherals can be connected internally and a large selection of interrupts can be generated. This wide variety of configuration options allows for the realization of many complex digital I/O scenarios.
