Rugged PC/104 & PC/104-Plus Enclosure - CanTainer (CT104)

The CT104 CanTainer is a rugged PC/104 enclosure systems constructed of .125° aluminum and designed for hostile and mobile environments. It features a dual system of shock and vibration isolation: The PC/104 modules are mounted axially in the enclosure with four internal rubber corner rails to absorb high-frequency vibrations, while the entire enclosure is mounted on the host platform with a thick rubber pad which absorbs low-frequency G-forces. The rubber pad may be removed for optional mounting solutions such as hard mounting, flange endcap, or fluidic mount assembly.
The CanTainer cross section measures 6.00" wide by 5.45" high (not including mounting pad) and is designed to mount PC/104 boards axially along the entire length of the enclosure body. The enclosure is available in standard lengths from 2" and 12" with custom lengths up to 48".
To mount boards or items such as hard drives that are larger than 3.550" x 3.775", there is an optional septum plate. These install vertically into rails that run the length of the enclosure. For smaller items, an optional PC/104-size aluminum plate allows for direct mounting in the PC/104 stack. Each CanTainer is available as a kit complete with endcaps and mounting accessories. Additional blank and pre-designed endcaps are available, or the customer may design their own cutouts using a downloadable DWG file.

Application areas:
Instrumentation, data collectors, remote terminals, SCADA packages or other solutions to operate in hostile environments

The DM9820 provides 48 bits of high speed digital I/O. It interfaces with the PCI Express® bus and uses large FIFOs and DMA transfers to allow for efficient management of digital data. Peripherals such as Pulse Width Modulators, Incremental Encoders, Programmable Clocks, 82C54 Timer/Counters and Advanced Interrupt Modules are all on board. All 48 bits have an individually programmed direction and mask. The Advanced Interrupt Modules provide Match, Event, and Strobe interrupts which latch all 48 bits upon firing. Peripherals can be connected internally and a large selection of interrupts can be generated. The wide variety of configuration options allows for the realization of many complex digital I/O scenarios.

This adapter can be used to fit and operate PCI/104-Express cards in PCs with PCI Express slots. Multiple cards can be stacked together on a single adapter.

The adapter has its own internal voltage controller which generates the 5-Volt supply for the PCI/104-Express card from the 12 Volts from the PC PCI Express slot. As an option, the 5-Volt supply can be connected directly via the HD connection. All supply voltages are visualized by LEDs and can be separated with jumpers in order to do current measurement.

Male-Female stacking spacers from RAF Electronic Hardware help overcome space limitations that may occur when PC/104 or PC/104-Plus bus drives are installed. With this approach, standalone module stacks are used like ultra-compact bus boards, but without needing backplanes or bird cages. Module boards are spaced exactly 0.6 inches apart using RAF precision-made nylon or aluminum male-female spacers, to build structurally secure standalone module stacks. RAF stacking spacers allow PC/104 and PC/104-Plus embedded system designers to employ application-specific module stacks for their products that are easily and securely assembled. The RAF hardware can be used with any of more than 100 different PC/104 ultra-compact bus board modules produced by manufacturers today.
